Is Coaching the same as Counselling?

Absolutely not!

Coaching focuses on acceptance and observation of what is in a person’s life and what the client can do by their own actions and self-belief to change their life for the future. The coach does not ‘fix’ anything – but assists the client to move forward and strengthen themselves, perceiving and believing more in their own capacity to handle life, to express their talents and to move forward with purpose, regardless of their past

Coaching focuses on how you would really like things to look in your life in the future – not on the pain of gu9lt or fear. As a client, you learn what causes you to fell that way, lean to deconstruct the experience, then change it by looking at how you can go forward

Counselling pays a lot of attention to a perceived problem in a person’s life. It focuses on the effect of the past on the present – on what tragedy has caused the client to feel the way they do about themselves and life in the present and about resolving their feelings with that tragedy. Therapy sometimes combined with specific bodily treatments such as hypnosis aims to ‘cure’ or alleviate the symptoms of depression, pain and anxiety.

Shouldn’t I be able to coach myself?

Yes, you can coach yourself. It’s called self-talk and willpower. It works, but only when you remember to do it, or when you are in the mood. Not good when you need someone to hold you accountable or in the middle of a huge goal or project and are having problems. Or when you need a helicopter view of where you’re at and where you’re going. See, that’s the problem when you try to go it alone. All you can see is what you can see. That’s just not good enough in a world that’s getting networked and where increased perspective is as important as dedication and persistence.

In what area of my life can coaching be beneficial?

That is entirely up to you, but clients usually enjoy this self-focus, which can include wants, needs, values, vision, lifestyle, sensitivity, peace, joy, choice, strengths, talents, gifts, toleration-reduction, dilemma resolution, desires, love, relating skills, standards, boundaries, bigger thinking, understanding, acceptance and happiness.

It’s a goal of coaching that “you can have it all, without paying the earth” And what we find is that when the Who (meaning you) is taken care of, you actually need-and want-less (Note ti strivers: Striving comes with a high cost to yourself, your body and your relationships. When should I hire a coach?

  • Coaching works best when there’s a significant gap between what you have and what you want.

What should I look for in a coach?

  • The coach should have credentials as a coach which they can show you
  • Ask to see testimonials from clients they have worked with.
  • It is important that you the client feel comfortable and get along naturally with the coach.
  • The client should feel respect for whom the coach is and for what they have accomplished.

I don’t know what I really want, I wouldn’t know where to start!

  • The coach will usually start with identifying what you are putting up with (tolerating) that you need to change
How many sessions are there in a Coaching package?

A complete Coaching package consists of 13 x 1 hour sessions.
