Too many people today live in the fast lane and spend their lives taking their mental and physical health for granted. Many assume that ill health won’t happen to them, or they rely on today’s modern technology will cure whatever ails them. This is a potentially harmful attitude.
To start living a healthy life you first have to place your health high in your values.
The only person who can take responsibility for your health is you and it must be remembered that prevention is always better than cure. Stress levels are soaring as the demands of our modern society escalates. Stress can be the catalyst for major health issues relating to coronary heart disease, cancer, stroke, depression etc.
Learning how to relax is essential for good health and when it is practiced regularly it has a wide variety of benefits including reducing stress levels. With a little practise relaxation techniques provide you with the more obvious benefit of allowing you to ‘switch off’ when you feel yourself becoming tense. Where are you in relation to……
- Do you know how to recognize the signs of stress?
- Do you take regular breaks during the day in order to wind down and compose yourself?
- Do you plan each day’s events so that you are more in control of your time?
- Do you routinely perform some type of relaxation technique such as meditation or yoga?

- At home are you able to switch off from stress at work?
- Do you exercise or find other physical activitues to help you relieve stress instead of drinking alcohol or taking tranquillisers?
- Do you know about other techniques – such as massage and aromatherapy – which can aid relaxation
- Do you make regular visits to your doctor, and are you aware exactly what ‘good health’ means?
